Foundation of the Ufa fort
Ufa's traditional foundation date is 1574. The city history museum connects it with the establishment of a fort as a stronghold on the southeastern frontier of the Russian state.
Context
The fort was a fortified outpost. In the museum's account, this stage preceded the later development of an urban settlement; it should not be confused with Ufa's first chronicle reference in 1586.
