Governorate institutions are based in the city
Ufa became a governorate city with a governor's residence and administrative institutions. A separate Ufa Governorate, however, was established later, in 1865.
Context
The governor's residence and institutions made Ufa an important administrative centre. The name of an administrative unit and the location of its authorities at that time should not be confused with later governorate boundaries.
