Rights, images and corrections

1. Scope

These rules concern the project’s texts, translations, photographs, illustrations and other material. They describe an editorial approach and do not replace statutory requirements. A rights holder may be someone other than the uploader or site owner.

2. Grounds for use

Using another person’s work requires permission, a suitable open licence or a statutory exception. Naming the author and linking to the source does not itself replace permission. Images of individuals separately engage Article 152.1 of the Russian Civil Code; holding the photographer’s rights does not automatically establish the subject’s consent.

3. Panorama attribution

The Ufa panorama retained from the original site is credited to Wikimedia Commons user “Арсений Смаков111” under CC BY-SA 4.0. The file page and licence are linked in the footer. Editors must establish appropriate grounds for other images. The panorama’s licence does not apply to every uploaded file.

4. Localised images

An English-specific illustration is a separate use of a file and also requires lawful grounds. A different language, collage, caption, edit or satirical context does not cancel the author’s or subject’s rights. An image missing from one language version is not necessarily removed from the other.

5. Identifying disputed material

Useful details include the page address and language, the exact text passage or image URL, the right affected, the grounds for the concern and the requested action: a correction, clarification, removal or another lawful measure. Unnecessary personal data should not be supplied. This list creates neither a mandatory complaint format nor an additional barrier to judicial protection.

6. Editorial measures

Where an error is identified, an editor may correct both languages, change the label, add a clarification or unpublish material. Unlawfully used files may require physical deletion and removal of direct access. Changes on the site do not guarantee immediate disappearance of third-party copies, caches or search results; that limitation does not remove duties to take lawful action.

7. Statutory remedies remain available

Project documents do not remove lawful claims for removal, correction, image protection, compensation or other remedies. There is no prohibition on challenging material or requirement to waive claims. The absence of published contact details does not extinguish affected persons’ rights.
